The GNAT Institute for Research and Industrial Relations Studies (GNAT IRIRS), through its Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Unit, successfully organized a one-day Library and Information Management Training Workshop on 19th May 2026 for librarians from Senior High Schools and Senior Technical Schools in the Ashanti Region.

The workshop, held at the GNAT IRIRS campus, brought together 66 school librarians to strengthen their professional competencies and enhance the quality of library services in their respective institutions. The programme wazopened by the Director of Continuous Professional Development, Dr. Victor deGraft-Etsison, who welcomed participants and highlighted the Institute’s commitment to professional development and lifelong learning.

Facilitated by Mrs. Rosina Anati Budu, Librarian, together with staff from the Library and ICT Departments, the workshop covered key topics including Organization of Library Materials, Library Classification Systems, Principles of Classification and Notation, Collection Development Policy, Performance Evaluation, and Accessing Electronic Information Resources.

Participants also engaged in hands-on practical sessions designed to reinforce key concepts and provide solutions to challenges commonly encountered in school libraries. Discussions during the workshop highlighted critical issues affecting library service delivery, including inadequate ICT infrastructure, outdated library collections, limited automation, and insufficient opportunities for professional development.

The training forms part of GNAT IRIRS’ broader commitment to supporting educational institutions through capacity-building initiatives that promote effective information management, improved access to learning resources, and enhanced educational outcomes.

Participants expressed their appreciation to GNAT IRIRS for the timely and relevant training initiative intervention and called for similar training programmes to be extended to librarians across all regions of Ghana.

GNAT IRIRS remains committed to empowering education professionals through relevant and impactful training programmes that contribute to national educational development.
